Tokyo will be Katie’s second Olympic Games (2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo). She was a decorated high school runner and raced cross country and on the track – 3000m steeplechase was her specialty—while at Syracuse. She was recruited through the USA Triathlon Collegiate Recruitment Program and began competing at the elite level in 2013. She is married to fellow triathlete, Tommy Zaferes, who frequently photographs the NYAC’s triathletes in action.

Katie secured the bronze medal in the women’s triathlon at the Tokyo Games, with a time of 1:57:03. Also, Katie and her teammates, Morgan Pearson (NYAC), Taylor Knibb (NYAC), and Kevin McDowell, secured a silver medal for Team USA in Tokyo with an overall time of 1:23:55 in the Mixed Relay.
